Sony a6000 firmware 2.0 update (XAVC S support)

An firmware for the Sony Alpha ILCE-6000 has been released by Sony a few days ago. I took the plunge and installed it immediately after it was available and I didn't regret it. You can download the firmware from here or click the link below

Among the main update is the support for XAVC S when capturing videos. Here are sample videos which I took on my way home from work. You can watch in full screen to appreciate. You can watch this videos in Youtube to appreciate the quality :)

Before you can capture videos with the new format XAVC S, you need to use storage which supports it(as mentioned in Sony's guide):

  • SDXC memory card with a capacity of at least 64 GB (Class 10 or faster)
  • UHS-I compatible SDXC memory card with a capacity of at least 64 GB
  • Memory Stick XC-HG Duo

For me, I am just happy that the hardware of the A6000 supports this firwamre update. Not even a single cent for a great update from Sony!
